We are now planning to build upon this success and develop an annual event based again around a two day fun endurance canoe race which will take in canals of four counties, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

What we hoping to achieve……

Our four objectives for this initiative are as follows:

  • Raise money for a valuable local project-this year we’ll be supporting a    local community initiative suggested by our participants.
  • Develop our annual community event supported by local businesses.
  • Develop our sustainable canoe resource that will be used throughout the year by St Johns pupils, a local canoe club, Sea Cadets and local businesses.
  • Create a valuable team building opportunity and have some healthy fun following the Olympic year.

What the event will involve……

The event will entail twenty canoes crewed by two people following a route across four counties for a distance of approximately 50 miles.

As well as the canoe crews there will be many opportunities for marshalling and being back up team members, offering huge scope for team building.

The event will be organised as a staggered endurance race with an overnight stop planned in.
